Banjul Mayor Malick-Lowe Hails Bayelsa Governor Over Educational Opportunity for Women

The Mayor of Banjul, Rohey Malick-Lowe, has expressed appreciation to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, for offering educational opportunities to female candidates from her city.

In a statement via her Facebook page, the mayor disclosed that the screening process for the beneficiaries would begin next week, describing the gesture as significant and timely.

“Thank you, H.E. Douye Diri of Bayelsa State. This means a lot to us. The screening will start next week,” she said.

Malick-Lowe also hinted at further announcements upon her return to The Gambia, noting her excitement over the development.
“I just can’t wait until I am back to The Gambia. I definitely have to disclose this news,” she added.

Speaking during a visit to a medical university in Bayelsa, the mayor highlighted the offer of two admission slots specifically for female candidates from Banjul, describing it as a step toward women’s empowerment and international collaboration. “In that spirit of love and oneness… we are offering two slots, two female candidates as part of our university here,” she said.

She further emphasised the importance of global engagement and partnerships, noting that such opportunities demonstrate the value of building relationships across borders.

“This is the benefit of travelling… to have a friend like a champion who believes in empowering women. Banjul, we are blessed,” Malick-Lowe stated.
