Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel: Venezuelan migrant receives jail sentence for assaulting NYPD officer
In a courtroom development stemming from a notorious Times Square altercation, Venezuelan migrant Darwin Andres Gomez-Izquiel was sentenced on Tuesday to 364 days in jail for kicking an NYPD officer during the incident.
The January 27 brawl, which was captured on camera, involved a group of migrants in a heated clash with law enforcement, drawing significant public attention.
Gomez-Izquiel, 19, who had previously pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, appeared unfazed during his sentencing. When offered the opportunity to address the court, he merely smirked and chose to remain silent.
This sentencing marks the second in connection with the high-profile incident. Earlier, Kevlin Servita Arocha, another participant in the brawl, admitted his guilt in June and received a sentence equivalent to time already served.
The legal proceedings continue for the remaining five defendants involved in the fracas—Ulises Bohorquez, Yohenry Brito, Wilson Juarez, Yorman Reveron, and Edgarlis Vegas—whose cases are still active, as per court records.
