Trump to engage Black journalists in Chicago
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is set to attend the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) annual convention this week in Chicago.
His campaign announced on Monday that Trump will participate in a question-and-answer session, engaging directly with political journalists and registered attendees on Wednesday.
This event marks a strategic effort by the former president, who has been actively courting Black voters amid encouraging polling data suggesting a potential increase in support from this demographic.
While the session will be closed to the public, it will be livestreamed on NABJ’s YouTube and Facebook pages, offering a broader audience the chance to engage with the discussion.
NABJ President Ken Lemon expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We look forward to our attendees hearing from former President Trump on the critical issues our members and their audiences care about most.”
He emphasized that this opportunity would empower Black journalists to pose challenging questions, seeking the transparency and information that Black Americans need.
In a written statement, Trump’s campaign highlighted that the discussion will focus on “the most pressing issues facing the Black community,” aiming to address concerns and foster dialogue.
Additionally, the NABJ has extended an invitation to current presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris to join the convention, although her participation is still unconfirmed. The inclusion of both candidates underscores the importance of addressing the needs and interests of Black voters in the upcoming election cycle.
