VP Harris hits fundraising trail amid ongoing calls for Biden to leave race
US Vice President Kamala Harris has taken to the fundraising trail to rally support for the embattled campaign.
Despite the turmoil surrounding Biden’s candidacy, Harris remains steadfast in her commitment to securing a victory in the upcoming election.
At a fundraiser in Massachusetts, Harris confidently declared, “We are going to win this election. It’s not going to be easy, but we are a group of people that understand anything worthwhile takes hard work.”
While she acknowledged the challenges faced by the campaign following a lackluster debate performance, Harris did not directly address the calls for Biden to withdraw from the race.
The fundraiser, organized by celebrity wedding planner Bryan Rafanelli, drew a crowd of 1,000 attendees and raised over $2 million. Notable figures from the entertainment industry, including Jennifer Coolidge, Billy Porter, and Darren Criss, were slated to attend the event, adding a touch of star power to the occasion.
Despite major donors signaling their reluctance to contribute unless Biden steps aside, the Vice President and his top aides reaffirmed their commitment to the campaign. This crisis of confidence in Biden’s ability to secure victory has thrust Harris into the spotlight as a potential replacement candidate.
Harris’s fundraising events have garnered increased attention from donors who wish to show their support for her potential bid for the White House.
According to Democratic fundraisers, there is growing speculation that Harris may soon replace Biden as the Democratic Party’s candidate, leading to heightened interest in her campaign efforts.
During her speech in Provincetown, Harris denounced the extremism and intolerance espoused by President Donald Trump, stating, “Right now, in our country, those freedoms are under full-on attack. White supremacists have showed up at pride festivals armed with assault weapons… We see extremists fan the flames of hate and homophobia for political gain.” Her passionate words elicited cheers from the crowd, with one person shouting, “Go get him Kamala!”
While calls for Biden to drop out of the race continue to mount, with 35 congressional Democrats publicly urging his withdrawal, Harris has remained steadfast in her support for the President. She has expressed her belief that Biden is fighting for the American people and has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to his candidacy.
As Biden continues to recover from mild COVID-19 symptoms at his Delaware home, his campaign is facing the challenge of meeting fundraising goals. The campaign had set a target of raising $50 million in big-dollar donations for the Biden Victory Fund in July. However, as of Friday, sources familiar with the fundraising efforts indicate that the campaign is on track for less than half of that figure.
The campaign, however, has dismissed reports of a fundraising slump, attributing any drop in donations to summer vacations. They remain optimistic with 10 fundraisers scheduled for the month of July.
