Random assault in West Village, 89-year-old woman sucker-punched by unhinged attacker
An 89-year-old woman was left stunned and injured when a deranged woman randomly sucker-punched her in broad daylight. D’yan Forest, a resident of the West Village, was on her way to a local Equinox gym for a morning swim when she became the victim of a sudden, unprovoked attack on July 10th, around 8:50 a.m.
As Forest was walking near the corner of Seventh Avenue South and West 11th Street, she was unexpectedly struck with a powerful blow that knocked her to the ground. The attacker, who had just assaulted a homeless man moments before, singled out the elderly woman, leaving her in a state of shock and agony.
With callous disregard for her victim, the assailant stood over Forest, seemingly reveling in her distress. Forest, struggling to see out of her left eye due to the attack, was left in a vulnerable and disoriented state. The perpetrator then quickly fled the scene, escaping west on Bank Street.
Despite the incident being reported to the NYPD, the attacker remained at large more than a week after the assault. The authorities are actively investigating the case and working diligently to apprehend the suspect.
The shocking assault on D’yan Forest highlights the need for increased awareness and vigilance in ensuring the safety and security of vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly. The incident serves as a stark reminder that random acts of violence can occur at any time and in any place, leaving innocent victims traumatized and in need of justice.
The West Village community, along with concerned citizens, are urged to remain vigilant and report any information that may lead to the identification and apprehension of the assailant. It is essential for the community to come together in condemning such acts of violence and supporting the victims who have suffered as a result.
