Homeless man arrested for alleged groping incidents in Chelsea
In a swift response to recent incidents, law enforcement authorities have apprehended a 26-year-old homeless man, identified as Tyheem Menardy, on Wednesday. Menardy stands accused of perpetrating a series of groping incidents in Chelsea last month, sending shockwaves through the community.
The incidents, both occurring in broad daylight on the West Side, involved two separate victims who were subjected to unwanted physical contact by the suspect. The first incident transpired around 9:55 a.m. on March 26, near the intersection of 9th Avenue and West 16th Street. Here, a 34-year-old woman fell victim to an ambush from behind, with the assailant forcibly touching her private area before fleeing the scene.
Shortly thereafter, at West 18th Street and 10th Avenue, mere blocks away, another victim, a 52-year-old woman, encountered a similar ordeal. Menardy allegedly approached her from behind and proceeded to grab her buttocks before making a swift escape.
Both women courageously reported the assaults to the authorities, prompting a thorough investigation by law enforcement agencies. Following diligent efforts, Menardy was apprehended and is now facing charges of forcible touching and sexual abuse.
The arrest of Menardy underscores the commitment of law enforcement in ensuring the safety and security of residents and visitors alike in the Chelsea area. As the case progresses through the judicial system, authorities continue to urge anyone with additional information to come forward, as they work tirelessly to bring justice to the victims and uphold the principles of safety and accountability within the community.
