In a bid to bolster surveillance capabilities and enhance law enforcement efforts, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has inked a groundbreaking deal with Flock Safety, a pioneering technology company, to roll out a fleet of advanced cameras across Oakland, CA.

Under the terms of the contract, a total of 480 state-of-the-art cameras will be strategically installed throughout Oakland, enabling authorities to seamlessly identify and monitor vehicles based on license plates, type, color, and even specific decals and bumper stickers.

The multimillion-dollar agreement with Flock Safety entails an initial investment of $1.6 million for the first year, with subsequent years carrying an approximate cost of $1.5 million annually. Of the 480 cameras slated for deployment, nearly 300 will be strategically positioned across Oakland’s bustling city streets, while the remaining units will be strategically stationed along adjacent state highways.
