Social media platform X, formerly recognized as Twitter and under the ownership of billionaire Elon Musk, experienced widespread disruptions, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access posts worldwide.

The outage, which began around 06:00 GMT on Thursday, saw a significant surge in reported issues, with approximately 95,000 users affected, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.

Downdetector highlighted, “User reports indicate problems at X (Twitter),” revealing that the disruption impacted users globally. At the peak of the outage, over 77,000 users in the United States encountered difficulties. Users in Canada, Britain, France, and various other countries also reported issues accessing both X and X Pro, the platform formerly known as TweetDeck.

Frustrated users took to alternative platforms, such as Meta’s Threads app, to voice their complaints about blank timelines on X. During the outage, users were unable to post, view new content, or send direct messages, encountering a message simply stating, “Welcome to X!”

The cause of the 45-minute outage remains unknown. Elon Musk acquired the company in a substantial $44 billion deal last year, further cementing his influence in the social media landscape.
