Tragic car crash claims lives of 5 young women preparing for friend’s wedding
A devastating car crash in south Minneapolis has resulted in the untimely deaths of five young women.
The incident occurred on Friday night when a speeding driver collided with the vehicle they were traveling in.
According to CBS, the group of friends, inseparable and eagerly anticipating a friend’s wedding scheduled for the following day, had been out together when the accident occurred.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara revealed that a state trooper had noticed the speeding driver on an interstate around 10:15 p.m., but before the trooper could intervene, the vehicle exited the highway, ran a red light, and crashed into the other vehicle at an intersection.
“These individuals had promising futures,” expressed Khalid Omar, the Director of the Dar Al Farooq Center Mosque. “They were the shining stars and invaluable members of our community.”
Omar further remarked, “We have never witnessed a tragedy of this magnitude before—where five young individuals tragically lost their lives at the scene of an incident like this.”
Although the speeding vehicle initially fled, it was eventually apprehended by the police. Authorities suspect that the driver may have been impaired, as reported by CBS Minnesota.
The Dar Al Farooq Islamic Center identified the victims as Sabiriin Ali, Sahra Gesaade, Salma Abdikadir, Sagal Hersi, and Siham Adam. In response to the devastating loss, the center has initiated a fundraiser to support the grieving families.
Ali, aged 17, had recently graduated from Edina High School and had plans to attend the University of Minnesota. Gesaade, aged 20, was about to begin her junior year at the University of Minnesota Rochester. Abdikadir, aged 20, was attending Normandale College. Adam, aged 19, was also a student at the University of Minnesota, and Hersi, aged 19, attended Minneapolis College.
Omar expressed the collective sorrow, stating, “Losing anyone is a tragedy, but the loss of five young lives simultaneously is an incredibly difficult burden to bear.”
City Councilmember Jamal Osman conveyed his frustration and anguish regarding the driver’s attempt to flee the scene before being apprehended. “The reckless actions of an individual, who survived the crash, snuffed out the futures of five young girls. We demand justice for these girls,” Osman asserted.
At present, the person responsible for the incident has not been identified by the police, and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
