Bronx, NY– Responding to recent announcement of Meisha Ross Porter as new chancellor of the Department of Education, Council Member Fernando Cabrera has expressed, in a press release sent to Parkchester Times, praise and great expectations for the new leadership.

“This is a historic moment in New York City.  The first African-American woman chancellor of the Department of Education, Meisha Ross Porter, brings a unique perspective and much needed experience to the position, the department and New York City public school students.

"Coming from a leadership position- executive superintendent for the Bronx- and having been educated in New York City’s public schools, Meisha Ross Porter knows landscape first-hand as well as the severe impact of existing inequality worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Cabrera.

He further noted that he has full confidence in Porter in reshaping the New York schools and education standard during Post-Covid era.

“As we move toward a post-COVID era, I am confident that her leadership will guide our school system and our children with innovation, compassion and understanding, to achievement that will serve well into the future,” he concluded.
