NYPD Police Officer Brian Mulkeen, a 33-yr-old Bronx cop, shot and killed

Police Officer Brian Mulkeen, 33, of Yorktown, N.Y. was killed around 12:30 a.m. On Laconia Ave. & 229th St.around Edenwald Houses . Mulkeen was patrolling the Edenwald Houses as part of the Bronx Borough Anti-Crime Unit when he and his partner tried to apprehend a 27-year-old man.
A violent struggle ensued, and Officer Mulkeen can be heard on a body camera yelling, "he's reaching for it." They say numerous shots were fired and that Mulkeen was struck three times.
A .32 caliber gun police say belonged to the suspect was recovered. He was shot and killed at the scene.
Officials have not identified the suspect but say he was on probation for a narcotics-related arrest last year. Officer Mulkeen was transported to Jacobi Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officer Mulkeen had been a police officer for nearly seven years.
