New York: Severed hands found in bleach-filled crockpot
Detectives have uncovered severed human hands stuffed in a crockpot filled with bleach during a search of an apartment in the Bronx on Monday night.
This shocking find may be connected to a separate, horrifying incident earlier the same day, where remains were discovered burned in a shopping cart in Yonkers.
The grim discovery was made around 11:30 p.m. in a fourth-floor apartment on Rogers Place, near East 163rd Street in the Longwood neighborhood. Investigators found the bleach-filled crockpot sitting on the kitchen floor, with two severed hands protruding from its contents.
A black bag located in the freezer is suspected to contain additional body parts, including at least one leg, though it had not yet been opened for examination.
In addition to the macabre findings, authorities also recovered a firearm and drug paraphernalia from a bedroom within the apartment.
The investigation revealed that earlier on Monday, two individuals were seen loading body parts into a shopping cart and pushing it onto a Metro-North train. They later transported the cart to Sherwood Avenue and Bronx River Parkway in Yonkers, where they set the remains ablaze.
Firefighters responded to a reported fire around 2 a.m. on Monday in Yonkers, only to discover a lifeless body on the sidewalk once the flames were extinguished.
Authorities determined that while the body was burned in Yonkers, the site was merely a “dump site,” leading to the investigation being transferred to the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
The building superintendent of the Bronx apartment building, who wished to remain anonymous, verified that the tenant of the unit had a troubled history.
He confirmed that the tenant, who occupied one room of the two-bedroom apartment, had been known for drug-related activities and that he had received complaints about him in the past.
The super recounted witnessing police carry a body bag from the premises and recalled seeing surveillance footage of a man and woman entering and exiting the apartment earlier in the day.
