In a heartfelt speech on the House floor, Rep. Tim Kennedy (NY-26) urged his colleagues to take immediate action against gun violence, following the devastating shooting death of a 3-year-old boy in Buffalo last week.

Ramone Carter was tragically killed while riding his tricycle outside his home, and his 7-year-old sister, Jamia Griffin, was also injured in the senseless attack. Two teenage boys have been indicted in connection with the shooting.

Rep. Kennedy, a co-sponsor of the Bipartisan Background Checks Act (HR715), Assault Weapons Ban (HR689), and the Aaron Salter, Jr. Responsible Body Armor Possession Act (HR3247), called on his fellow lawmakers to pass these critical pieces of legislation to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The congressman’s impassioned plea comes as the nation grapples with the epidemic of gun violence, and families like the Carters and Griffins bear the unbearable loss of innocent lives. Kennedy’s call to action echoes the urgent need for federal reform to protect our communities and ensure that no family suffers the same fate as the Carters and Griffins.
