Senegalese Association launches innovative volunteer program for migrants in NYC
Today marks the launch of the “African Migrants Volunteer Program,” an initiative by the Senegalese Association of America aimed at connecting thousands of migrants with volunteer opportunities across New York City.
This program serves as a gesture of gratitude towards a city known for its warm embrace of newcomers.
The program addresses a pressing issue: many migrants are currently awaiting work permits, a process that can leave them in limbo. Recognizing the potential idle time, the Senegalese Association saw an opportunity to engage these individuals in meaningful activities that benefit the community while they await employment authorization.
“Our goal is to turn this waiting period into a productive time,” said a spokesperson from the Senegalese Association. “By volunteering, migrants can contribute to the city’s welfare and build connections within their new community.”
Program coordinators are inviting organizations in need of volunteers to reach out to the Association. The volunteer force is available seven days a week, offering a flexible and reliable resource for community programs.
The “African Migrants Volunteer Program” not only provides much-needed assistance to local organizations but also helps migrants integrate into the fabric of New York City, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose during a challenging transition period.
For more information or to request volunteers, organizations are encouraged to contact the Senegalese Association of America.
