Biden lambasts Trump, warns of revenge-fueled campaign
President Joe Biden delivered a scathing rebuke of former President Donald Trump during his keynote address at the Detroit NAACP’s 69th annual Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner, accusing Trump of seeking revenge rather than genuine leadership in his bid for a second presidential term.
“Trump isn’t running to lead America. He’s running for revenge. And revenge is no way to lead a country. You can’t build a future on revenge,” Biden declared to a captivated audience, which included NAACP members and supporters.
The president, who received a lifetime achievement award at the event, continued to criticize Trump’s record as president, highlighting his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Trump is trying to make the country forget just how dark things were when he was president,” Biden asserted. “We’ll never forget him lying about how serious the pandemic was, telling Americans to inject bleach. I think that’s what he did, that’s why he’s so screwy.”
Biden warned of the dangers of a second Trump term, referencing the January 6th insurrection and efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
“The threat that Trump poses is greater in the second term than the first,” Biden emphasized. “It’s clear when he lost in 2020, something snapped in Trump. He just can’t accept that he lost. … He’s not only obsessed with losing 2020; he’s clearly unhinged.”
The president also questioned Trump’s potential Supreme Court nominees, saying, “Let me ask you, if he’s reelected, who do you think he’ll put on the Supreme Court? Do you think he’ll put anybody who has a brain?”
Amid uproarious applause, Biden promised to support the NAACP’s agenda if reelected. “Reelect Kamala and me and a Democratic Congress and we will help the NAACP. We will sign the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, the Freedom to Vote Act, and make Roe v. Wade the law of the land again!”
The fiery speech underscored Biden’s determination to rally support against Trump and his supporters, framing the upcoming election as a pivotal moment in American history.
The president’s passionate plea for unity and justice resonated deeply with attendees, setting the stage for a contentious campaign ahead.
