Woman fatally stabbed in East Harlem, boyfriend arrested
A devastating incident has shaken the community of East Harlem. A thirty-three-year-old woman, Melanie Woods, was discovered dead in her apartment bathtub on Second Ave. near E. 117th St.
The grim finding occurred around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, prompted by a concerned friend’s urgent call to authorities.
According to police reports, Woods had sustained multiple stab wounds to her upper body and cuts on her neck. Her lifeless body was uncovered after her worried friend and mother, unable to reach her, resorted to tracking Woods’ cell phone via an app, which pinpointed her location within the apartment.
The suspect, Candido Rodriguez, 51, who was identified as Woods’ boyfriend, was reportedly seen in the vicinity of the apartment building earlier on the tragic day of discovery. Neighbors recounted spotting Rodriguez within the premises on Tuesday morning.
Following intensive investigation efforts, law enforcement officials managed to apprehend Rodriguez on Thursday. He has since been charged with murder and weapons possession in connection with Woods’ untimely death.
