President Biden has announced his intention to visit Baltimore next week in response to the recent collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The President confirmed his plans while speaking to reporters upon his arrival at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, having just attended a fundraising event in New York City alongside former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Following the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of six individuals when a cargo container ship collided with the bridge early Tuesday, the Biden administration swiftly approved $60 million in federal aid to aid in the cleanup efforts. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the released emergency funds will assist Maryland in initiating crucial work, with further resources to follow as the recovery and rebuilding efforts progress.

President Biden reiterated his commitment to supporting Baltimore, expressing his expectation that the federal government will cover the entire cost of reconstructing the bridge. Officials have highlighted the significant economic ramifications of the Port of Baltimore’s closure, as efforts continue to reopen the vital shipping route, which sustains thousands of jobs.

Addressing the people of Baltimore earlier in the week, President Biden affirmed solidarity, stating, “We’re with you. We’re going to stay with you as long as it takes.”
