Signal issues briefly disrupt Amtrak, NJ transit services in, out of NYC
Early Friday morning, signal issues temporarily disrupted operations for both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit, creating challenges for commuters traveling to and from the city. The transit agency reported that the incident resulted in a brief interruption in service.
At approximately 11 a.m., Amtrak announced a temporary hold on all trains operating between New York-Penn Station and Philadelphia. This precautionary measure was implemented due to an “ongoing communication issue with signals and switches.” The signal-related problems were successfully resolved just before noon, allowing train services to resume.
The impact extended to NJ Transit, prompting the suspension of service on key routes, including the Northeast Corridor, Raritan Valley Line, and North Jersey Coast Line. The coordination efforts between the two transit entities were crucial in addressing the disruptions promptly.
Normalcy returned around noon as both Amtrak and NJ Transit announced the resumption of services. However, commuters were advised to anticipate residual delays as the transit systems worked to stabilize operations and ensure a smooth transition back to regular schedules. Commuters are encouraged to stay informed about any further updates as the transit agencies diligently address the aftermath of the temporary service disruption.
