Biden campaign launches account on Trump’s Truth Social
President Biden’s reelection campaign has established a presence on the Truth Social platform, a social media network founded by former President and GOP presidential frontrunner, Donald Trump.
The campaign made its debut on the platform with a humorous tone, posting, “We just joined Truth Social, mostly because we thought it would be very funny,” via their handle @BidenHQ on Monday. They playfully invited followers to join them for “truths and retruths or whatever they call them.”
Rob Flaherty, Biden-Harris deputy campaign manager, added to the light-hearted approach, noting, “[A] thing about campaigns is sometimes you just do things for the lolz.”
This unexpected move was first reported by Fox News, garnering attention across the political spectrum. The Biden campaign’s Truth Social account retains the handle @BidenHQ, mirroring their original Twitter account with 249,000 followers. However, as of early Monday afternoon, @BidenHQ on Truth Social had only amassed 562 followers.
The account’s slogan, “Malarkey ends here,” promises to provide “just the facts, Jack.” Their inaugural post at 1:45 p.m. ET on Monday conveyed a sense of curiosity, stating, “Well. Let’s see how this goes. Converts welcome!”
@BidenHQ didn’t shy away from its political stance, sharing a Fox News clip featuring GOP presidential candidate and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticizing Donald Trump for adding $7.8 trillion to the national debt and contributing to today’s inflation. The campaign also posted a clip from NBC’s “Meet the Press” where GOP candidate Nikki Haley derided Trump for suggesting the execution of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
It’s worth noting that Donald Trump launched Truth Social in February 2022, following the suspension of his accounts on Twitter and Facebook in 2021. These suspensions were largely due to his praise of individuals involved in violence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Currently, Truth Social boasts approximately 2 million members.
Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, commented on the Biden campaign’s move, stating, “Crooked Joe Biden and his team are finally acknowledging that Truth Social is hot as a pistol and the only place where real news happens.” He further suggested that Biden’s attempt to counter the narrative through misinformation won’t succeed and may lead to unfavorable engagement on the platform, stating that they’ll be “ratioed to oblivion.”
