Ukrainian interior minister, 16 others die in helicopter crash
A helicopter crash near Kyiv has killed at least 16 including the Ukrainian interior minister.
The Ukrainian Interior Minister Denis Monastyrsky and other ministry officials died Wednesday in a helicopter crash near a kindergarten in Brovary, a city near Kyiv, Ukraine’s national police said.
Police said that two children were among those killed and that 22 victims, including 10 children, were hospitalized.
They said an emergency rescue operation was underway.
Police identified the helicopter as a State Emergency Service aircraft but provided no details about the cause of the crash.
According to the regional governor, children and employees were present in the kindergarten when the crash took place.
Nine of the people who died were onboard the helicopter, officials said.
