ASA launches GoFundMe, targets $3 million to build headquarters in Harlem
Association of Senegalese in America (ASA) has launched GoFundMe, targeting $3 million to build headquarters in Harlem.
This was disclosed in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Thursday June 23, 2022.
According to the statement, the ASA has been the single most effective resettlement conduit for the Senegalese families in the Americas.
“Established in 1988 during the rapid growing of Senegalese immigrants in the Americas and the inevitable anticipation of burgeoning growth, through continued migration and American born children, ASA remains a nonpartisan, nonpolitical, nonreligious and an all-inclusive not-for-profit organization,” the statement reads.
It adds, “The association has been the go to place for all issues benefiting or affecting the Senegalese community, its immigrants and first generation Americans of Senegalese parents.
“The association has been on the forefront in advocating on behalf of all Senegalese in America, facilitating new immigrants’ resettlement needs, hosts sociocultural activities, provides resources for funeral and burial services, weddings and baptism, and liaises between the Senegalese in the diaspora, their Senegalese diplomats and Americas’ political leaders in various major cities in the America.”
After more than three decades of rendering impeccable services for its membership in the heart of ‘Little Senegal” in Harlem, New York City, the association has now faced a burgeoning growth of children and senior citizen population, in addition to all its expanding services.
“Against the backdrop of this dire need of a more suitably adequate facility, we are asking everyone, Senegalese and nonSenegalese, to be very generous in their contributions to this not-for-profit organization to acquire its own headquarters in Harlem,” said Sadio Yaya Barry, ASA President.
He revealed that the new headquarters shall house the organization’s international operations, an adult daycare, after school services, meeting, conference and celebration facilities, and media studios among others.
“The headquarters will also provide rental offices for the Senegalese Consulate, BHS and other Senegalese national and diaspora organizations.
This GoFundMe is a kickstarter of a planned series of fundraising campaigns until we achieve the ultimate goal of three million dollars ($3,000,000) by December 31, 2023.
“I am delighted to officially launch this ASA headquarters fundraising campaign during my last months as the president of ASA. I encourage our members, Africans in the diaspora, fellow New Yorkers, our American neighbors near and far, and all other benefactors to generously support this extremely fruitful campaign and most impactful investment for us,” Barry said.
