International partners commend Somalia-Somaliland Djibouti dialogue
The recently held Djibouti dialogue between President Mohamed Abdilahi Mohamed Farmajo and President Muse Bihi Abdi hosted by Djibouti president Ismail Omar Guelleh on Monday June 15 2020 with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali in attendance has received rapturous welcome from Somalia’s international partners.
The international partners which include United Kingdom, African Union Mission in Somalia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Ethiopia, European Union, Finland, France, Germany, Intergovernmental Authority on Development, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Uganda, United States, United Nations, have released a statement following the historical dialogue.
The partners in a jointly signed statement released on Wednesday June 17, 2020, commended the efforts that led to the successfully dialogue between the two leaders and their commitment to continuing with the dialogue.
“Somalia’s international partners welcome the dialogue between President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed ‘Farmajo’ and President Muse Bihi Abdi, hosted by President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti, and attended by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. We commend the regional support, and engagement that led to the talks,” the statement reads.
“We welcome the meeting as an important step in strengthening communication and fostering understanding, and encourage the technical committee named by the principals to deliver tangible benefits for their people.
“We welcome the commitment of the two leaders to continue the dialogue,” the statement adds.
