Mayor Adams announces seven key judicial appointments to enhance NYC legal systemIn a significant move to bolster the judiciary in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams today announced the appointment of seven distinguished judges across Civil Court, Criminal Court, and Family Court. This strategic initiative aims to ensure that the city’s legal system is equipped with experienced professionals dedicated to upholding justice and public safety.
“Today, we proudly announce the appointment of seven exceptional judges to the bench, each bringing years of expertise and a deep commitment to upholding public safety and justice,” Mayor Adams stated. “These distinguished individuals are not only highly qualified but also dedicated to ensuring that our legal system serves all New Yorkers with fairness and integrity.”
The appointed judges include Lydia Antoncic and Juanita Wing to Civil Court, with Judge Antoncic bringing a diverse legal background from her time as an associate attorney and executive director of the Animal Welfare Trust, and Judge Wing having extensive experience with the New York City Administration for Children’s Services and in Family Courts across Bronx and Queens Counties.
In the Criminal Court, Nancy Carrington, Kacie Lally, and Joseph Sorrentino were appointed. Judge Carrington has a wealth of experience as an assistant district attorney and principal court attorney, while Judge Lally has held prestigious roles including clerkship for U.S. District Judge Paul A. Crotty. Judge Sorrentino has dedicated his career to the Supreme Court of the state of New York Appellate Division, serving in various capacities including chief appellate court attorney.
Finally, Christine Perumal and Pamela Scheininger were appointed to Family Court. Judge Perumal has a strong background in matrimonial and family law, having served as a supervising attorney with ACS, while Judge Scheininger began her career in general litigation and has contributed to legal education as an adjunct professor.
