“Viral photo misinterpreted” — Ohio wildlife officials set clarifies goose rescue incident
The Ohio Division of Wildlife has officially debunked a viral photograph that falsely claimed a man was caught on camera eating pets.
The image, which circulated widely on social media, showed a man holding two geese. However, the Division clarified that the man was not involved in any nefarious activity but was, in fact, rescuing the animals after they had been struck by a vehicle.
The incident took place in Columbus, Ohio, approximately 45 minutes away from Springfield, the city where the misleading claims originated.
In a statement addressing the disinformation, wildlife officials emphasized, “This was not in Springfield, Ohio. He was rescuing them after they were hit by a car.”
The clarification serves as a critical reminder of the importance of verifying information before sharing it, especially in an age where social media can rapidly spread false narratives.
