Biden to host Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington

President Joe Biden is set to host the 2024 Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21.

This gathering reiterates Biden’s continued dedication to international collaboration, even as his presidential term approaches its conclusion.

A White House statement reads, “President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. will host the fourth in-person Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday, September 21.” The summit will welcome key global leaders: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio of Japan.

This occasion marks a first for Biden, hosting foreign dignitaries in Wilmington as president, reflecting his “deep personal relationships with each of the Quad Leaders, and the importance of the Quad to all of our countries.”

The Biden-Harris Administration has prioritized strengthening the Quad alliance, starting with the inaugural Quad Leaders Summit at the White House in 2021. Since then, annual summits and multiple meetings among Quad Foreign Ministers have reinforced this commitment.

The upcoming summit is poised to focus on “bolstering the strategic convergence among our countries, advancing our shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and delivering concrete benefits for partners in the Indo-Pacific,” emphasizing critical areas such as health security, disaster response, maritime security, infrastructure, technology, climate, and cybersecurity.

Looking ahead, the White House announced, “The next Quad Summit will be hosted by India,” signifying the ongoing collaboration and shared objectives among these influential nations.
