Vice President Kamala Harris spoke out on the tragic shooting that occurred earlier today in Winder, Georgia, which resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. “Before I begin, I do want to say a few words about this tragic shooting,” she stated, expressing her condolences and support for the students, teachers, and families affected by the incident. Harris emphasized her gratitude for the first responders and law enforcement who arrived at the scene.

Describing the shooting as a “senseless tragedy,” Harris lamented the alarming reality that parents across the United States must send their children to school with the fear of whether they will return home safely.

“It’s outrageous that every day in our country, parents have to send their children to school worried about whether or not their child will come home alive,” she declared passionately.

Harris called for an urgent end to the “epidemic of gun violence” in the nation, insisting that “it doesn’t have to be this way.”

She reaffirmed her commitment to sending thoughts and prayers to the families impacted by the shooting, while also recalling her recent college tour where she engaged with young leaders across the country.

Reflecting on her experiences during the tour, Harris revealed a staggering reality: nearly every student she encountered raised their hand when asked if they had participated in active shooter drills during their schooling.

“Our kids are sitting in a classroom where they should be fulfilling their God-given potential, yet some part of their big beautiful brain is concerned about a shooter busting through the door of the classroom,” she remarked, drawing applause from the audience.

Harris’s impassioned plea resonated with many, as she reiterated the need for meaningful legislative change to combat gun violence.

“We do not have to live in a country plagued with gun violence,” she stated, calling for the passage of saner gun laws and the defeat of the Republican Party and the NRA to remove assault weapons from the streets and classrooms.
