A violent altercation in the early hours of August 8 has left one man dead and another injured inside a 24-hour laundromat in the Bronx. Clarence Woodward, 39, currently residing in a Brooklyn homeless shelter, now faces numerous charges, including murder, manslaughter, and two counts of assault.

The incident took place at the 303 Laundromat located in the Claremont section of the Bronx. Surveillance footage shows Woodward entering the laundromat at 2:42 a.m., carrying a few shirts. Moments later, chaos erupted as he allegedly stabbed two men before fleeing southbound on College Avenue.

The victims, both homeless, had sought refuge in the laundromat that night. A 47-year-old man sustained a stab wound to his back and was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he remains in stable condition. Tragically, the second victim, stabbed multiple times in the legs, torso, and back, succumbed to his injuries at the same hospital.

Hours after the brutal attack, police discovered two meat cleavers on the stoop outside the laundromat, believed to be the weapons used in the assault. The motive behind this horrific incident remains unclear as the investigation continues.

Witnesses and local residents are grappling with shock and fear following this violent episode, questioning the safety of their community spaces. “It’s alarming to think that something like this could happen in a place we consider a safe haven,” said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous.
