Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, the suspect in a recent rape case in Queens, was apprehended by a group of community members who recognized him from a police-released video.

The suspect, who waived his Miranda rights, admitted to police that he had a drug problem and had never committed a crime like this before.

According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny, Inga-Landi was spotted by community members who had been vigilant after the release of the video.

They noticed him frequenting a deli in Corona over the past two weeks and decided to take matters into their own hands. Late Monday night, around 1 a.m., a group of about half a dozen individuals confronted and detained Inga-Landi until police arrived to take him into custody.

Inga-Landi’s confession and the community’s proactive efforts have brought a sense of relief to the neighborhood, where residents had been on high alert following the rape incident.

The suspect’s admission of a drug problem has also raised concerns about the potential link between substance abuse and criminal behavior.

The NYPD has commended the community members for their bravery and vigilance, which led to the swift apprehension of the suspect.

The incident serves as a testament to the power of community policing and the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the public in keeping neighborhoods safe.
