New York: Manhunt underway after violent sexual assault in SoHo

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has intensified its search for a man captured on surveillance cameras, following a violent rape in SoHo.

The disturbing assault took place at 4:10 a.m. on April 21 within a residential building situated at the intersection of Thompson and Prince Streets.

According to law enforcement sources, the assailant trailed a 23-year-old woman into the building, where he launched a sudden attack. He reportedly restrained her in a chokehold and carried out the sexual assault.

Following this harrowing ordeal, the suspect swiftly fled the scene on foot, heading southbound along Thompson Street, evading immediate capture.

Crucially, authorities have revealed that the victim was entirely unfamiliar with her attacker, deepening the sense of concern within the community. Prompt action ensued as officers from the 1st Precinct swiftly responded to the distress call placed by the victim, summoning Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to facilitate her urgent transport to a local hospital for critical medical assessment and care.
