‘Antisemitism Is Real and Deadly,’ Senator Schumer Condemns Attack on Temple Israel

The U.S. Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, has strongly condemned the recent attack on Temple Israel in the United States, describing the incident as horrifying and a stark reminder of rising threats against Jewish communities.
In a statement issued from Washington, D.C., Schumer expressed shock over the incident but noted that no lives were lost and the attacker had been neutralized.
“I am horrified and appalled by the attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan, one of the largest and most vibrant Jewish congregations in America,” Schumer said.
He commended the swift response of synagogue security personnel and local law enforcement for preventing what could have been a catastrophic loss of life.
“Thank God, it appears no one was killed and the attacker was neutralized. I am so grateful for the quick reaction of synagogue security and local law enforcement,” he stated.
The Senate leader said the idea of a vehicle carrying explosives being driven into a building filled with children was both terrifying and infuriating.
According to him, the attack highlights the growing dangers faced by Jewish communities across the United States.
Schumer referenced a series of recent incidents targeting Jewish institutions, including attacks and threats against synagogues and Jewish gatherings in different parts of the country.
“Antisemitism is not theoretical. It is real, and it is deadly,” Schumer said.
He urged people across the United States and around the world to unite in confronting and defeating antisemitism.
“Every one of us has a responsibility not just to stand up against this pernicious hate, but to fight it wholeheartedly, no matter where it comes from,” he added.
Authorities are continuing investigations into the attack, while community leaders have called for increased vigilance and stronger measures to protect places of worship.
