Mayor Eric Adams announced today that City Hall and several iconic New York City buildings will be lit purple tonight as part of “NYC Go Purple Day,” an annual event held in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The lighting, spanning all five boroughs, aims to raise awareness of domestic violence and highlight the city’s commitment to supporting survivors and their families.

“During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I am urging all New Yorkers to learn about how domestic, intimate-partner, and gender-based violence impacts New Yorkers and what we can all do to support survivors,” said Mayor Adams. “Critical to our efforts is raising awareness for the rich ecosystem of potentially life-saving resources and services available to help New Yorkers reach safety and healing.”

City landmarks, including One World Trade Center and the Kosciuszko Bridge, will join municipal buildings in turning purple, symbolizing the city’s united stance against domestic violence. The event also encourages New Yorkers to participate by wearing purple and sharing messages of support online with hashtags #NYCGoPurple and #StandWithSurvivors.

With over 245,000 domestic violence incidents reported to the NYPD in 2023, awareness and access to resources remain critical. Through initiatives like the Project Home housing program and the Women Forward NYC action plan, the Adams administration continues to address the complex needs of domestic violence survivors across the city.
