In a fervent response to the recent Republican vote to block a crucial bill aimed at protecting access to in-vitro fertilization (IVF), Vice President Kamala Harris has voiced her strong condemnation, emphasizing the importance of reproductive freedom for women across the nation.

Harris stated, “Every woman in every state must have reproductive freedom. Yet, Republicans in Congress have once again made clear that they will not protect access to the fertility treatments many couples need to fulfill their dream of having a child.”

Her remarks come amidst a broader context of what she describes as a systematic assault on reproductive rights by Congressional Republicans.

“Congressional Republicans’ repeated refusal to protect access to IVF is not an isolated incident. Extremist so-called leaders have launched a full-on attack against reproductive freedom across our country,” she continued.

Harris pointed to the significant legislative actions taken since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, highlighting that in the more than two years since that landmark decision, Republicans have proposed and enacted numerous abortion bans that criminalize medical professionals while neglecting exceptions for cases of rape or incest.

Moreover, Harris criticized the GOP’s broader agenda, noting their obstruction of legislation aimed at safeguarding contraception access, alongside the introduction of four national abortion bans.

Her impassioned defense of reproductive rights underscores a growing concern among many Americans about the direction of reproductive health legislation.

“Their opposition to a woman’s freedom to make decisions about her own body is extreme, dangerous, and wrong,” she declared.

Harris reiterated the commitment of the Biden administration to champion reproductive freedoms, stating, “Our administration will always fight to protect reproductive freedoms, which must include access to IVF.”

She called on both sides of the aisle, pointing out that the majority of Americans, regardless of party affiliation, support the preservation of access to fertility treatments.

“And we continue to call on Congress to finally pass a bill that restores reproductive freedom,” she concluded, urging for a unified effort to protect the rights of individuals seeking to build their families through IVF.
