Mayor Adams holds town hall meeting with older adults to tackle key issues in NYC

Mayor Eric Adams addressed the concerns of older adults in New York City, underscoring the city’s commitment to health, safety, and community engagement.

The event highlighted the city’s efforts to enhance the quality of life for its senior residents.

Councilwoman Lynn Schulman, who co-hosted the event, praised the mayor’s initiatives, “This mayor has done more for healthcare than any other mayor that I can remember…let’s give him a round of applause please.”

Mayor Adams emphasized the importance of direct communication with residents, stating, “You really have to get on the ground and speak with people, and let them know what is happening in the city.”

Addressing safety concerns, Adams highlighted the removal of illegal vehicles and weapons from the streets: “17,900 illegal guns off our street, 53,000 illegal mopeds, ghost cars, and roadways that people used to ignore, we moved them off our streets and we destroyed them.”

Seniors raised various issues, including the need for increased police presence and resources. Mayor Adams acknowledged the challenges posed by a shrinking police force, stating, “We’re losing police officers. Our numbers have dropped substantially. We’ve been on a major recruitment campaign.”

Concerns about the availability of affordable housing and community resources were also discussed. Mayor Adams explained the city’s initiatives to build more housing and improve existing facilities, stressing, “The city must build more housing. That is what we’re fighting for right now.”

The mayor also addressed questions about illegal scooters and e-bikes, emphasizing the need for regulation and safety measures. “We are so focused on getting these e-bikes under control,” he assured attendees.

In closing, Mayor Adams reiterated his dedication to improving the lives of New Yorkers, stating, “This city is strong.
