5.2 magnitude earthquake devastates Southern California
Southern California was rattled on Tuesday night by a 5.2 magnitude earthquake centered near Mettler, an unincorporated area in Kern County, approximately 85 miles (137 kilometers) northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
Despite the significant tremor, there have been no immediate reports of damage, offering relief to residents across the region.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake struck at precisely 9:09 p.m., sending shockwaves through a substantial portion of Southern California.
Authorities from Los Angeles and other affected communities promptly mobilized to inspect infrastructure for any potential damage. Fortunately, initial assessments indicated the absence of structural harm.
The seismic event was notably felt at Dodger Stadium, where a baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies was in progress. Remarkably, the crowd’s reaction was minimal, with the game continuing uninterrupted despite the tremors.
In response to the quake, the Kern County Fire Department announced via social media that firefighters in the vicinity would undertake thorough surveys of their respective districts to ensure public safety and assess any unseen impacts.
Southern California, a region accustomed to seismic activity, experienced a moment of collective breath-holding, ultimately grounded by the reassurance of no significant damage.
