Pelosi blasts Netanyahu’s ‘worst ever’ address to congress amidst Gaza crisis
Former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has issued a scathing critique of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent address to Congress, labeling it “the worst presentation of any foreign dignitary invited and honored with the privilege of addressing the Congress of the United States.”
Pelosi, who served as Speaker from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023, took to social media to express her dismay.
In a post on her official X handle on Wednesday evening, she emphasized the disappointment felt by many families anticipating a ceasefire in the ongoing Gaza conflict.
Pelosi’s remarks reflect the growing frustration among those hoping for a resolution to the hostilities.
“Many of us who love Israel spent time today listening to Israeli citizens whose families have suffered in the wake of the October 7th Hamas terror attack and kidnappings,” Pelosi wrote.
“These families are asking for a ceasefire deal that will bring the hostages home – and we hope the Prime Minister would spend his time achieving that goal.”
Netanyahu’s speech, which called for “total victory” in the war, appeared to quash any immediate hopes for a ceasefire or the return of Israeli hostages. He asserted that Israel’s fight against Hamas in Gaza is not only crucial for Israel but also serves to protect the United States.
The reaction to Netanyahu’s address was met with protests across the United States, where demonstrators accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza.
The conflict, which erupted last October following a deadly attack by Hamas militants that left around 1,200 Israelis dead and hundreds more kidnapped, has seen escalating violence and a humanitarian crisis in the region.
Pelosi’s condemnation adds a significant voice to the international call for peace and a ceasefire.
