IOC president declares Olympic athletes as ‘Peace Ambassadors’
In the midst of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach delivered a powerful message, calling upon the world to view the upcoming Olympic Games as a beacon of hope for peace.
Speaking at the ceremonial opening of the Olympic Village in Paris, Bach invoked the vision of the Games’ founder, Pierre de Coubertin, who saw the Olympics as a means to promote harmony among nations and people worldwide.
Bach emphasized the role of the Olympic athletes as modern-day ambassadors for peace, stating, “Today, you — the Olympic athletes — you are the peace ambassadors of our time.” Drawing inspiration from de Coubertin’s legacy, Bach highlighted the significance of the Games as a platform for fostering understanding, unity, and reconciliation in a world plagued by strife.
The IOC President’s call for peace comes at a time when global tensions and conflicts continue to dominate the international stage.
By emphasizing the role of athletes as ambassadors of peace, Bach aims to rekindle the spirit of the Olympic Games and remind the world of its potential to transcend political divisions and promote the values of peace and cooperation.
