Biden’s decision real indicator of patriotism – Eric Adams
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has reiterated his unwavering support for President Biden and navigated questions about the future of the Democratic Party with poise and clarity.
During a live interview with Erin Burnett, Mayor Adams commended President Biden’s decision to step down, describing it as a “real indicator of patriotism.”
Adams praised Biden for his consistent dedication to the nation’s best interests, despite personal tragedies and challenges. “I was riding with Biden because I believe he always aimed to do what’s best for America,” Adams stated. He emphasized the need for the Democratic Party to now craft a clear and forward-thinking message for the future.
When pressed about endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination, Adams remained non-committal but focused on key issues.
“Affordability, public safety, securing our borders, and a clear direction for our children are what the people want,” he asserted. Adams stressed that he, as a delegate, is committed to respecting the party’s process and engaging in thorough discussions with other delegates and leaders before making an endorsement.
Burnett highlighted the significant impact of immigration and border issues on New York City, noting Adams’ previous frustrations with Vice President Harris’s handling of the portfolio. Adams acknowledged his frustration with national leadership on immigration reform, a problem he said predates the current administration. “We needed one person, a czar, to manage the influx of migrants coming into our country,” Adams explained. Despite his disagreements, he praised the administration’s overall performance on critical issues.
Adams was also asked about Senator Joe Manchin’s potential bid for the Democratic nomination. True to his principles, Adams lauded the democratic process, emphasizing the importance of peaceful transitions of power and the right of individuals to run for office. “This is democracy. We should be proud that every time we change power, we do it in a peaceful way,” Adams said.
Mayor Adams concluded the interview by reaffirming his commitment to the democratic process and the importance of unity within the Democratic Party. As a delegate, he stressed the need for ongoing communication and thoughtful decision-making in the wake of President Biden’s announcement. “We will move forward accordingly,” Adams assured, highlighting the fresh nature of the developments and the necessity of a measured approach.
