Woman found dead in Brooklyn homeless shelter restroom

Tragedy struck at the StarBright Family Residence, a homeless shelter located at 615 East 104 St. in Canarsie, Brooklyn, late Saturday night. Staff members made a shocking discovery when they found a 56-year-old woman unconscious and unresponsive in one of the facility’s restrooms around 11 p.m.

The woman was discovered with her head submerged in a bathtub. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and police officers were promptly called to the scene. Despite their efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at 11:59 p.m.

Authorities reported no visible signs of trauma or immediate indications of what caused the incident. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has taken over the case and will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
