PSG crushes Revel 9-0 in French Cup
Paris Saint-Germain, led by the exceptional Kylian Mbappe, secured a resounding 9-0 triumph against sixth-tier amateurs Revel in the French Cup on Sunday, preventing any chance of an embarrassing upset.
The game, hosted at Revel’s modest stadium in Castres, accommodated only 2,000 fans in the Haute-Garonne south-western region.
Ahead of the match, Revel’s fervent supporters pleaded with Mbappe to grace the game with his presence, a plea that was fulfilled as the 25-year-old star was included in manager Luis Enrique’s formidable traveling squad.
Luis Enrique commented on Mbappe’s insistence to play, stating, “Kylian wanted to play, and when he wants to play, there’s not a lot you can say.”
Mbappe’s presence undoubtedly had a significant impact as he scored a hat-trick during the encounter, elevating his goal tally in the competition to an impressive 30 goals, making him PSG’s top scorer in the French Cup.
“When he plays, everyone wins – the staff, the fans, the rivals,” remarked the PSG coach, highlighting Mbappe’s invaluable contribution to the team’s success.
Revel’s Maxence N’Guesson found himself on the scoresheet, albeit unfortunately, with an own goal as the first half concluded.
Despite this momentary setback, PSG’s dominance was undeniable, showcasing their hunger to add to their cup collection after falling short in the previous two seasons.
Luis Enrique emphasized the importance of the French Cup, stating before the game, “The French Cup is one of our objectives this season, we know its importance.”
In other French Cup action, Marseille progressed from the round of 64 with a narrow win at Thionville, while Monaco secured a hard-fought 6-5 penalty shootout victory over Ligue 1 rivals Lens after the teams were deadlocked at 2-2.
Notably, on Saturday, Lille delivered a staggering 12-0 defeat to Golden Lion, who had traveled nearly 7,000km from the Caribbean island of Martinique, asserting Lille’s dominance in the competition.
