It Is Time for A Latino(a) NYPD Commissioner

You should know that, after the resignation of NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell, Mayor Eric Adams has a unique opportunity to appoint the first Hispanic to ever serve as a New York City Police Commissioner.

Mayor Eric Adam appointed the first African American Woman to said position. This mayor has broken the record for having appointed the most ethnic “firsts” in NYC’s history.

You should take note that for too long the Hispanic/Latino Community have been by-passed and overlooked and have been the recipient of nothing but classic “Lip Service”.

The Mayor now has a great opportunity before him, to recognize that the Hispanic Community has many talented, qualified and responsible candidates to be appointed as the NYC Police Commissioner. Just to name a few I listed four and they are as follows:

Chief Nilda Irizarry Hofmann: She is the First Hispanic Woman promoted to Three-star chief within the NYPD.

Fausto Pichardo: He served as Chief of Patrol. He had under his command 22 thousand uniformed officers. During his tenure he had the respect, and admiration within the diverse communities in NYC.

Edward Caban: Is Actually the First Deputy Police Commissioner of New York City, as such he is well qualified to be promoted.

Louis A. Molina: He serves as Commissioner of the NYC Department of Corrections.

As you see, my dear readers, these are just four out of many talented, well qualified members of the Hispanic Community that can well serve the people, and the Police Department for the City New York. Mayor Eric Adams should take a good look for his next “First” and not overlook the talented men and women within the Hispanic Community to fill this vital position.

The Hispanic/Latino Community has had enough of Lip Service. No one can say that the Hispanic Community is lacking in qualified people.

I am Rev. Ruben Diaz, and this is What You Should Know.
