“Abortion is still legal and will remain legal in New York” — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
The U.S. representative for New York’s 14th congressional district, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has maintained that abortion is still legal in New York State.
“Although the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, in New York, abortion is still legal and will stay legal,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
The lawmaker disclosed this via her Facebook page on Monday June 27, 2022, stressing that the supreme court’s ruling does not overturn abortion rights of New Yorkers.
“In New York, you can get an abortion for any reason up to 24 weeks of pregnancy (which is 28 weeks from your last period), or later if your health is at risk or your pregnancy will not survive.
“If you need an abortion and are uncertain about how far along in the pregnancy you might be, you can call or visit an abortion provider to determine if you are eligible,” she said.
She therefore advised New Yorkers to beware of fake clinics that try to stop people from getting abortions.
“They often show up online when searching for abortion clinic or abortion pill,” she stated.
