Rudy Giuliani posts $10,000 bond in Arizona election subversion case
Former Donald Trump lawyer and ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced on Monday that he posted a $10,000 bond in Arizona, facing charges related to attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in the state.
Giuliani revealed on his “America’s Mayor Live” social media show that he had been processed, including being fingerprinted and having a mugshot taken at the Maricopa County sheriff’s office. “It’s hard for me to believe … that I actually had to report as a defendant in a criminal case,” he expressed on his show.
The charges stem from accusations that Giuliani conspired to falsely claim Arizona’s electoral votes for Trump following his narrow loss to Democratic President Joe Biden in 2020. Giuliani has pleaded not guilty and is set to go to trial in October.
The case, brought by Arizona’s Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes, involves 18 defendants, including Giuliani. They face charges of conspiracy, fraud, and forgery related to efforts to assemble a slate of electors pledged to Trump, aiming to undermine the certification of the 2020 election.
Despite repeated calls, the Maricopa County sheriff’s office and the Maricopa County Superior Court clerk’s office did not return requests for comment. Giuliani’s bond posting follows a court order last month, after he allegedly avoided authorities’ attempts to serve him court papers.
Trump, who remains steadfast in his false claims that his 2020 defeat was due to fraud, is preparing to run against Biden again in the upcoming November presidential election.
