Bronx Borough Hall to host historic African Union Flag Raising celebration

In a landmark occasion celebrating the vibrant cultural tapestry of the Bronx, the borough has announced a date to host its inaugural African Union Flag Raising event.

According to a statement, the event is scheduled to hbe held at Bronx Borough Hall on Saturday, May 28th.

This significant gathering, organized by the Office of Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson in collaboration with community partners including the African Advisory Council (AAC), aims to honor and spotlight the invaluable contributions of the African immigrant community to the Bronx.

The event, slated to run from 2 pm to 5 pm at 851 Grand Concourse, holds particular importance as the Bronx is recognized for having the largest African immigrant population in New York City.

Representatives of the African community are warmly invited to partake in this momentous occasion, underscoring the borough’s deep-rooted diversity and unity.

The statement reads:

“I am writing to extend a warm invitation to you to attend The Bronx Borough Hall’s first-ever African Union Flag Raising event, which will be held at Bronx Borough Hall, located at 851 Grand Concourse, on Saturday, May 28 from 2 pm to 5 pm. The African Union Flag Raising aims to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and contributions of the African immigrant community in the Bronx. This has a special significance as the Bronx is the borough with the largest African immigrant community in New York. As an esteemed representative of the African community, your presence at this event would greatly honor us and enhance the significance of the occasion. The event is being organized by the Office of the Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, in collaboration with various community partners, including the African Advisory Council (AAC). As this is the first time that the AU flag will be raised in our borough, it promises to be remarkable.
