Bronx honors Estella B. Diggs with street renaming ceremony on 108th birthday
On Sunday, April 21st, at 3 PM, the Estella B. Diggs Democratic Club will lead a significant event at the corner of 167th Street and Franklin Avenue in the Bronx: the unveiling of a street renaming to commemorate Estella B. Diggs, the Bronx’s pioneering figure.
Estella made history in 1972 as the first woman of color from the Bronx to be elected to the New York State Assembly, where she left an indelible mark by championing the creation of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program—a landmark achievement that has since become a national program.
