Ex-NAACP President Robert named after street in Bronx
East Avenue and Parkchester Road have been named after Ex-NAACP President, Beverly Roberts.
The naming ceremony held on Thursday June 9th, 2022, commemorated Roberts’ 71st birthday.
Speaking at the event, NYC Council Member, Amanda Farias, said, “We celebrated and honored the legacy of the late Ms. Beverly Roberts, beloved Parkchester community advocate, mother, grandmother, and President of the NAACP Parkchester Branch & UFT member, with a co-naming ceremony on the corner of Parkchester Road and East Avenue. A legacy like hers is one to remember.
She added, “This corner is right next to the building she lived in, raised here family in, organized for the community in and celebrated her wins! That’s why it’s so special to have her recognized on this corner. Having her family and the community she worked with here has been an honor.
“Thank you to the family of Beverly Roberts for your work and the Department of Transportation for working with my office to expedite and execute the new street co-naming.”
