African Immigrants Bucking Their Continent’s Obstacle to Development
Bronx, New York–African immigrant community in the Bronx is bucking the undemocratic governance they grew up in and which still prevalent in most of their countries of origin.
For example, African Advisory Council, established in collaboration with the Bronx Borough President in 2010, has so far democratically elected three successful administrations with fairness and transparency.
United African Coalition-unitedafricancoalition.org, established in 2013, has recently celebrated the successful election of its second administration with democracy and transparency.
These two organizations together represent the socioeconomic and political interests of African immigrants in the Bronx.
The African immigrants are indeed excited with this trend. "If we can successfully and democratically work in unison in New York without ethnic, religious or sociocultural barriers, there is hope for our continent’s trending democratic sustainability."
