The United States President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on CNN, accusing the global broadcaster of a “false and dangerous statement” allegedly linked to a Nigerian media source regarding a reported ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump dismissed the report aired by CNN World News, insisting that the statement attributed to senior Iranian authorities was entirely fabricated.

“The alleged statement put out by CNN World News is a FRAUD, as CNN well knows,” Trump declared, further alleging that the network relied on a “trouble-making site from Nigeria” to promote what he described as misleading information capable of escalating an already fragile geopolitical situation.

The controversy stems from a statement purportedly issued in Tehran on April 7, 2026, and attributed to Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. The statement outlined conditional terms for de-escalation, noting that Iran would halt defensive military operations if attacks against it ceased.

It also referenced diplomatic efforts involving Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir, who were commended for their roles in facilitating dialogue. Additionally, the statement proposed a two-week window for safe maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, contingent on coordination with Iranian armed forces.

According to the document, negotiations were to be guided by a 15-point proposal from the United States and a 10-point framework from Iran, signaling what appeared to be a potential pathway toward de-escalation.

However, Trump categorically rejected the authenticity of the statement, asserting that it did not originate from “the upper levels of the Iranian Government” and accusing CNN of knowingly amplifying falsehoods.

“No one can believe that Fake News CNN put out a knowingly false and dangerous statement pretending it came from the upper levels of the Iranian Government. It didn’t! It was totally made up,” Trump said.

The former president warned that such reporting could inflame tensions in an already volatile region, emphasizing that misinformation at such a critical moment poses significant global risks.

As of press time, CNN has not publicly responded to Trump’s allegations, while there has been no independent verification of the disputed statement from official Iranian channels.
