U.S. Embassy Issues Shelter-in-Place Advisory for Americans in Bahrain
The U.S. Embassy in Bahrain has issued a shelter-in-place advisory, urging all American citizens in the country to remain indoors until further notice. The advisory comes amid unspecified security concerns that prompted embassy personnel to take precautionary measures.
In an official statement, the Embassy advised: “We recommend that all Americans in Bahrain stay in a secure location, such as their residence or another safe building, and ensure they have an adequate supply of food, water, medications, and other essential items.”
The embassy further cautioned U.S. citizens to avoid demonstrations, maintain a low profile, and stay alert to their surroundings. “Monitor local media for breaking news and be prepared to adjust your plans as the situation evolves,” the advisory added.
In addition, the Embassy urged Americans to keep their phones charged and maintain regular communication with family and friends to inform them of their status. U.S. citizens are also encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely security updates while in Bahrain.
For emergencies, the Embassy reminded citizens to dial 999 and noted that the consular section remains available for assistance at +973-1724-2700.
A spokesperson for the Embassy emphasized the importance of vigilance: “We urge all U.S. citizens to follow these instructions carefully to ensure their safety. Your immediate compliance can help prevent harm while authorities assess the situation.”
The shelter-in-place advisory remains in effect until further notice. American citizens in Bahrain are advised to stay indoors, avoid public gatherings, and follow instructions from local authorities and embassy officials.
Officials have not provided further details regarding the nature of the security threat, but emphasized that the advisory is a precautionary measure to safeguard lives.
The Embassy pledged ongoing communication, stating: “We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as soon as additional information becomes available. Safety remains our top priority.”
