Elon Musk unveils Blindsight device to restore sight to people blind from birth
Elon Musk has revealed the transformative capabilities of Neuralink’s latest innovation, the Blindsight device.
Musk stated, “The Blindsight device from Neuralink will enable even those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see.”
This revolutionary technology promises to unlock a new world for individuals who have experienced profound vision loss.
Musk elaborated on the device’s potential, highlighting its ability to restore sight to those who have been blind from birth, “Provided the visual cortex is intact, it will even enable those who have been blind from birth to see for the first time.”
While the initial experience may be a far cry from what most consider ‘normal’ vision, Musk was candid about setting realistic expectations.
He noted, “To set expectations correctly, the vision will at first be low resolution, like Atari graphics.” However, he remains optimistic about its future capabilities, asserting that it “has the potential to be better than natural vision” and could allow users to “see in infrared, ultraviolet or even radar wavelengths, like Geordi La Forge.”
