Brooklyn man arrested for threatening Uniondale public library staff
A tense morning unfolded at the Uniondale Public Library on Thursday as a Brooklyn man was arrested after allegedly making terroristic threats and menacing library employees, according to Nassau County police.
Curtis Desir, 29, was taken into custody outside the library at 9:25 a.m. after reportedly threatening to shoot the staff.
Officers from the First Precinct swiftly responded to the scene at 400 Uniondale Avenue, prompting a lockdown of the library to ensure the safety of everyone inside.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, and police confirmed that no firearm was recovered at the scene. The quick response by law enforcement prevented what could have been a tragic situation.
Desir has been charged with making a terroristic threat and two counts of third-degree menacing. He is scheduled to face arraignment on Friday in the First District Court in Hempstead.
The incident has left the local community shaken but grateful for the prompt action by the police, which ensured the safety and security of the library’s patrons and employees. The Uniondale Public Library has since resumed normal operations, though the emotional impact of the threat lingers.
